Building Engineering
We deliver creative solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. We embed sustainability principles in every design.
Our Edmonton office has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the team.

In this role the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for the core building mechanical design team;
  • Fulfill project management functions including the development of project schedules and budgets on projects of varying size and complexity, focusing on a wide range of projects in the institutional and commercial building market.
  • Problem solving, technical design.
  • Preparation of project cost estimates, tender documentation process, tender evaluation, project scheduling.
  • Prepare/ review specifications and reports.
  • Participate in delivering quality projects as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Senior quality review of the work performed by more junior technical staff.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring of junior technical staff.
You will direct and coordinate the activities of existing mechanical engineers and designers/drafters – collaborating most closely with our Electrical and Structural team within the building engineering discipline area.

You will take a leadership role in marketing, raising the public profile of the mechanical engineering group in Northern Alberta and be hands-on in proposal development, advancing projects through the concept, design and construction phases, managing existing clients and developing new business.

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized post secondary institution
  • Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • Minimum of 8 years of related industry experience with institutional, commercial and light industrial projects
  • Ability to design and manage complex engineering projects
  • Good knowledge and understanding of mechanical design standards;
  • Experience with energy modeling software;
  • Strong background in HVAC design for buildings (specifically commercial/ institutional and light industrial);
  • Good level of computer literacy (Microsoft, Word, Excel and Project);
  • Strong communication skills, ability to meet deadlines and to work in a team environment;
  • Innovative thinker with the ability to market our services.

You have a sound knowledge of agency/regulatory approval processes, and strong project, financial and quality management skills. In terms of your staff development approach, you play a key role in inspiring, motivating and growing talent in the group and fostering an inclusive a flexible culture whilst adopting and promoting established people practices within AECOM.
